The Penn Epigenetics Podcast

Hosts

Janice Reynaga

Janice is a 3rd year biochemistry PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania (Upenn). She received her bachelors in biochemistry at Cal State Fullerton, and completed a thesis project related to gene regulation and neurodegenerative diseases. Throughout her undergraduate career, Janice served as a high school AVID tutor and organized an after school program for middle school students. Now as a PhD student she is co-chair of the Latin American Graduate & Professional Student Assembly (LAGAPSA) which advocates for the interest of all Latinx graduate students at UPenn. As a first generation college graduate she values great mentorship and is excited to get the conversation rolling about UPenn’s graduate school experience. She recently received the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (NSF-GRFP) and is now investigating cancer epigenetic in the laboratory of Dr. Benjamin Garcia. During her free time she enjoys eating delicious food, running, and going to concerts. janice.reynaga@pennmedicine.upenn.edu

Balint received his bachelors and masters in biology upon completing a thesis project related to a parasite specific immune response across the genus Drosophila at Emory University . Balint received his PhD in the lab of Dr. Giovanni Bosco while studying the genetics and neural circuitry of Drosophila social learning at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Balint is currently investigating the epigenetic regulation of social structures using ants as a model system. During his free time, Balint enjoys hiking, photography, and going to concerts and soccer matches.
