The major aim of this five-year research project will be to use intracranial recording techniques in patients with medically intractable epilepsy to elucidate the spatiotemporal mechanisms of odor coding in the human olfactory system and olfactory-related regional networks!

Team members involved: (Naz) Gulce Nazli Dikecligil, Andrew Yang, Kyle Mabry, and Jay Gottfried.

Our lab is currently leading a study that investigates the degree of apparent smell loss during and after the onset of COVID-19.

Andrew and Naz are currently working on Intracranial EEG (iEEG) studies of the human olfactory system. Specific topics of their research include: determining neural substrates of odor valence (pleasantness) perception, deciphering the encoding of odor stimulus features in the piriform cortex, and the cross-frequency interaction & phase coding that underlies olfactory working memory.

As of September 2019 the Lab has settled into their permanent lab-space located in G-10 Stemmler Hall!
