The AAMC Group on Education Affairs (GEA) has four sections that reflect the medical education continuum:

  • Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME)
  • Graduate Medical Education (GME)
  • Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
  • Medical Education Research Scholarship and Evaluation (MESRE)

Why Attend Section Meetings?

  • Meet colleagues with similar interests
  • Stay current on the regional and national initiatives of the section
  • Get involved with new initiatives in your area of expertise or interest
  • Help generate ideas for national initiatives

GEA members may belong to two of the four sections and are included on the GEA listserv.

Section meetings are open to all and take place Friday, April 5, 2019, from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m.

Current Section Initiatives

Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME)

  • Creating resources for educators/institutions using student portfolios
  • Disseminating the Business Model Canvas — a business approach for educators to address the cost and process of implementing medical education innovations
  • Enhancing methods for generating and implementing ideas from UGME members

Graduate Medical Education (GME)

  • Engaging residents in a regional community of education scholars through the Resident and Student Conference Track with mentoring and tailored learning opportunities
  • Developing a network of GME educators for purposes of collaboration and sharing best practices
  • Connecting with other GME faculty and learners to develop inter-institutional initiatives and share innovations

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

  • Addressing the increasingly diverse professional roles of faculty working in academic medicine with an added emphasis on faculty development within medical schools and teaching hospitals
  • Applying educational principles to professional development activities and supporting professional roles of all faculty
  • Collaborating with colleagues in UME to GME on issues that impact the continuum of medical education

Medical Education Research Scholarship and Evaluation (MESRE)

  • Completing a collaborative research project that looks at the impact of the regional GEA grant programs using a mixed-methods approach
  • Developing regional and national presentations to support educators with topics including peer review and practical approaches to incorporate conceptual frameworks
  • Compiling an online repository of MESRE-related resources for educators conducting education research/scholarship
